The AT2020 is designed for use in applications where an external power source is already available. It requires 48V DC phantom power, which can be supplied by a mixer or console, or by a separate, daisy-chained source such as the Audio-Technica AT8801 single-channel or CP8506 four-channel phantom power supply.
The microphone output is a balanced, low-impedance, 3-pin XLR male connector. The balanced signal is between pins 2 and 3, and the hot pin is on pin 2 (the positive voltage on the hot pin is generated by positive acoustic pressure on the capsule). The ground (shield) is on pin 1.

To avoid phase cancellation and poor sound quality, all microphone cables must be consistently connected: pin 1 to pin 1, etc.
Avoid leaving the microphone in direct sunlight or in locations where the temperature exceeds 43°C (110°F) for extended periods. Excessive humidity should also be avoided.
