Description

The KMS 105 microphone was developed for optimal recording of the human voice. It is perfectly suited for demanding concert applications. The KMS 105, already available on the market for several years, has become an internationally recognized standard in the field of high-quality stage microphones.

Thanks to their particularly low background noise level and efficient use of off-axis sounds without parasitic coloration, this microphone is ideal for use with personal headphone systems.

The KMS 105 features a cardioid polar pattern capsule, ensuring optimal suppression of sounds coming from behind the microphone. It is particularly effective at suppressing sounds originating from the hemisphere 180° behind the microphone.

The high acoustic resolution and flat frequency response of these microphones ensure that the musician has optimal control over their performance on stage at all times.

Acoustic characteristics

The studio-grade condenser capsules used in both microphones allow them to capture all the nuances of the human voice right from the start. Compared to other handheld microphones, most of which use dynamic capsules, the KMS range offers a high degree of acoustic transparency, an extended frequency response, and detailed transient reproduction.

In this microphone, carefully tuned acoustic filters and transformerless impedance converters, capable of handling very high sound pressure levels, prevent any overload of the microphones, even by pronounced plosives.

Despite excellent protection against plosives, sibilance and other « S » sounds are transmitted with their natural emphasis, as only condenser microphones allow. Furthermore, the aforementioned acoustic filters are designed to preserve the directivity characteristics of the capsules, even in the low frequencies. These filters therefore provide the KMS 105 vocal microphone with highly effective feedback protection during sound reinforcement use.

Electrical characteristics

Since vocal microphones are most often used in proximity, electronic bass compensation attenuates the proximity effect on the capsules.

Furthermore, this microphone features a non-switchable high-pass filter with a cutoff frequency of 120 Hz (3 dB point, measured in a free field). The KMS 105 has a dynamic range of 132 dB and a maximum permissible sound pressure level of 150 dB SPL.

The input noise level is only 18 dB(A). This allows the microphones to be used with high gain without the risk of additional noise. Even at long distances, the microphones maintain a high signal-to-noise ratio, facilitating freedom of movement and creativityimportant aspects for artists.

Thanks to the transformerless output circuit, microphone signals can be transmitted over long cables without sound degradation.

Mechanical characteristics

Microphones designed for stage use must have a particularly robust construction. Therefore, the KMS 105 has a thick metal body, which also ensures effective attenuation of handling noise.

The grilles of these microphones are made of durable steel. If necessary, they can be easily unscrewed to allow cleaning of the internal acoustic filters.

The KMS 105 microphone comes with a microphone stand clip and a padded nylon cover, durable enough for touring.
